The air sampling kit includes several air sampling cassettes, a sampling pump, and a sampling instruction, which can be seen here.  Please note that the cassettes and the pump should be returned for analysis to our laboratory in London, Ontario, Canada within a month from this order.  The samples will be analyzed using Transition Electron Microscopy as described in a  standard method NIOSH 7402, which is the same procedure that we offer to professional asbestos abatement companies.  In this top-of-the-line analysis, asbestos fibers are detected using a high-power electron microscope and identified using electron diffraction spectroscopy. The standard turnaround time for this test is 15 business days from the time when we receive the samples.

Description

You laboratory report will show concentration of asbestos fibers in air expressed in fibers per centimeter cube (ff/cc). Generally speaking, the lower concentration of fires in air, the better is quality of air in your house. The following reference numbers will help you to decide if you house requires additional cleaning:

0.010 ff/cc – maximum allowable concentration of asbestos fibers after professional asbestos removal (Ontario Asbestos Regulation)

0.040 ff/cc – maximum concentration of asbestos fibers in ambient air (ONTARIO’S AMBIENT AIR QUALITY CRITERIA, 2012)

0.100 ff/cc  maximum allowable concentration of asbestos fibers during renovation or any work that may involve asbestos (Ontario Asbestos Regulation)

Your air sampling kit contains several sampling cassettes to capture asbestos fibers from the air and an air sampling pump. The step-by-step procedure can be seen here.  Typically, it takes 2.5-3 hours to collect a sample.

After you collect all the samples please:

  1. Complete the “Request for Analysis Form” that was provided with your order
  2. Pack the pump and the samples in their original box
  3. Send or deliver the samples and the paperwork to our laboratory (return shipping cost is not included in this order)

Asbestos is the most toxic when you inhale it. To be safe you should wear N100 or P100 dust mask when you work with asbestos.
