Marijuana plant contains high concentration of terpenes that are responsible for the characteristic smell of marijuana products. Terpenes are natural organic compounds that can be found in most plants, industrial solvents (as turpentine), and many cleaning supplies with the floral or citrus smell.

Note: This is a professional testing kit, not a DIY solution. Once you collect air samples, you must return them to our lab for professional chemical analysis.

Our testing is based on the National Institute Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH USA) method 1552 modified for use with diffusive samplers. The kit can be configured by selecting various numbers of samples, as many as you need for a typical house or office. We recommend testing at minimum each floor of the house, and rooms where you work and stay most of the time. Collecting samples is straightforward and requires no prior experience. Just follow the easy step-by-step instructions that will be provided with the kit. The sampling devices are safe and nontoxic, but need to be kept away from kids due to chocking hazard. For the optimum sencitivity, please allow sampling to continue for 7 days, and return the samplers to our laboratory for testing.

Description

Marijuana-related terpenes are a group of 12+ volatile compounds responsible for the distinctive marijuana smell. Terpenes are mildly toxic, and their concentration in industrial air should not exceed 20 ppm. The typical guidelines for concentrations of marijuana terpenes are shown below:

  • <0.020 ppm: Concentration is within the comfort level.
  • 0.02–0.10 ppm: Terpenes may be noticeable to the most sensitive individuals.
  • 0.10–0.20 ppm: The smell is detectable and may cause discomfort.
  • 0.2–20 ppm: The smell can become irritating. Concentrations at this level are likely harmful to vulnerable groups of the population.
  • >20 ppm: Hazardous concentration of terpenes in the air.

Your sampling kit includes several samplers for the detection of formaldehyde in indoor air.  The step-by-step sampling procedure can be seen here.

Once you completed the sampling, please:

  1. Read the shipping instructions that were provided with your kit.
  2. Pack the samples for return shipping
  3. Complete the “Request for Analysis Form” , that was provided with your kit and place it into the shipping container with the samples
  4. Send or deliver the samples using 1-2 day courier service. Please note that the cost of return shipping is not included in this order.
