The IOM personal sampling device engineered to measure the inhalable fraction of airborne particulate matter in occupational environments. Its sampling head replicates the original design developed by the Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) in Scotland, incorporating a reusable cassette that houses a 25‑mm filter capsule. The sampler operates at a controlled flow rate of 2 L/min, achieving a 50% cut point of 100 μm, which aligns with international inhalability criteria. This design enables accurate collection of larger, behaviorally relevant particles that conventional 37‑mm cassettes often under‑represent.

The sampler is widely used in regulatory and research applications, including:

• compliance with the Ontario MOL definition of inhalable particulate matter,
• ACGIH® inhalable particulate mass,
• NIOSH Method 5700 for particulate formaldehyde, and the
• HSE MDHS 14/4 method for inhalable dust.
