Silica in Residential Air. Sampling Kit With Laboratory Analysis
Price range: $320.00 through $980.00
DIY Residential Air Sampling Kit (Rental – Return Required)
This kit lets homeowners collect their own indoor air samples for Respirable Cristaline Silica (Quartz and Cristobalite). It includes a calibrated air pump (1‑month rental), PPI cassettes for collection of Respirable Silica, and simple instructions. Each sampling runs for 24 hours per room, using one cassette per room. The analysis detects all types of cristalline silica, which can be an indicator of industrial contamination from outside the house, or remmnanfs og the recent renovation. If the total silica concentration is below 0.005 mg/m3, the air meets Ontario’s standards for clean air.
After sampling, return the pump and cassettes to our laboratory:

Description
Concentrations of respirable crystalline silica in residential air are generally expected to be non‑detectable or well below 0.005 mg/m³. Results below this level indicate that silica concentrations in your home’s air are considered safe and consistent with the intent of the Ontario Clean Air Act.
When silica concentrations fall between 0.005 and 0.025 mg/m³, the levels are elevated. The source of silica dust should be identified and eliminated, and the affected areas should be thoroughly cleaned.
If silica concentrations exceed 0.025 mg/m³, the environment is not considered safe for occupancy, and immediate corrective action is required.
