Description
VOC is a term that is used to describe all kinds of solvents released by household chemicals and off-gassed from construction materials like: furniture, flooring, food, cleaning liquids, air fresheners, gasoline, perfume and so on. They can be found in every house at very low concentrtartion. The TVOC in the air is not regulated meaning that there is no governmental standard that would say what is a safe limit.
The widely accepted guidelines for TVOC as sum of all VOC in the air are shown below:
- <0.05 mg/m³. TVOC concentration is less than 0.05 mg/m³, which is well within the comfort level
- 0.05-0.30 mg/m³. TVOC are present but likely do not cause any discomfort
- 0.3-0.5 mg/m³. The smell might be detectable. TVOC level is acceptable and is typical for newly built buildings
- >0.5 mg/m³. TVOC concentration is above 0.5 mg/m³. The smell can become irritating. The source should be found and eliminated.
In short, the concentration of TVOC in your house should be o.5 mg/m³ or less. If you have any questions, please email us at your convenience
