Urea Formaldehyde Foam Insulation (UFFI) was introduced as an affordable home insulation. Liquid pre- polymer was injected into voids between walls, where it solidifies into foam providing additional insulation to older buildings. Soon it was discovered, that UFFI slowly breaks down producing carcinogenic gas formaldehyde.

Since mid 1980’s the UFFI has been banned from use in Canada. If you are selling or buying an older house, it is important to check the foam insulation for UFFI.

Collect a table spoon of foam and place it in a Ziploc bag. Seal the bag, and label it with a permanent marker: “Foam from a kitchen wall”, or “Foam from attic”. If you want to test more than one sample, each sample should be placed in a separate bag. Count number of samples, and select corresponding number of tests.

Once the package with your samples is ready, please:

1. Print the payment receipt for your order. If you do not have a printer, please give us your order number, name, email, and phone number we will match it with our record of your order.
2. Place the printed receipt (or your order #) into the box/envelope with your samples
3. Send or deliver the samples and the paperwork to our laboratory
